Alena graduated from Bryn Mawr College in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts in Physics, magna cum laude. During her undergraduate studies, she was involved in research on fabrication and characterization of magnetic nanomaterials and spintronic nanodevices. Alena continued her education at Rice University earning a Ph.D. in Applied Physics in 2021. Working in the field of theoretical biological physics, she developed theoretical models to study the molecular mechanisms behind transcriptional bursting and gene expression variability in living systems. Alena joined Fletcher Yoder as a technical advisor in August 2021.
